R&D Technician
Major Duties
Participate in the design and development of new products and technical support of existing products. Help solve multidisciplinary engineering problems at the component through system level. Conduct & document testing utilizing existing test protocols or help develop new test methods. Contribute to the intellectual property position of the company via invention and patent applications. Maintain accurate documentation of concepts, designs, drawings, and processes.
More specifically:
- Conceive of product, fixture, and test method concepts
- Build prototype products & fixtures
- Help develop and conduct test methods
- Perform Verification Testing and support the documentation of the test results
- Participate in the Design Transfer process, including training assemblers, updating documents, performing process validation testing, etc.
Skill Requirements
- Good prototyping skills, such as: soldering, use of adhesives, good manual dexterity / hand-eye coordination, microscope assembly
- Ability to operate machine tools such as mill & lathe
- Familiar with common test methods: tensile, pressure testing, etc.
- Knowledge of test & inspection methods & tools such as: Instron machine, calipers, pin gauges, snap-gauges, optical comparator, etc.
- Ability to use standard PC tools (MS Word, Excel, etc.)
- Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks) is a plus
- Basic mathematic skills & knowledge of basic statistics (average, standard deviation, etc.)

R&D Engineer
Major Duties
Design and development of new products: Conceive of product, fixture, and test method concepts. Research materials & methods; design prototype products & fixtures. Develop, conduct, and validate test methods. Write Verification & Validation Protocols, perform the associated testing, and document the test results. Coordinate, design, and perform pre-clinical testing, both in vitro & in vivo. Participate in the Design Transfer process, including training assemblers, updating documents, performing process validation testing, etc. Provide directly or support project management, including holding team meetings, documenting action items, maintaining device history files, reporting on project scope, and schedules. Assign work to technicians, assemblers, and oversee outside vendors & consultants. Contribute to the intellectual property position of the company via invention, lab notebook entries, and patent applications. Work with other departments to coordinate pilot production of new products. Provide technical & clinical guidance on new products.
Provide technical & clinical support on existing products and in the resolution of product complaints. Provide clinical case support, as required. Maintain knowledge of competitive technologies in addition to medical, technical, and biomedical developments related to company products. Support company goals and objectives, policies and procedures, QSR, and FDA regulations. Maintain QSR systems, including pre-production quality assurance procedures, pre-clinical testing programs, and post production QSR compliance in coordination with the Document Control, Clinical, and Quality Assurance functions.

- Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks)
- Working knowledge of statistics and various analysis methods, including DOE; Minitab a plus
